11 Best Gaming Laptops Under $2000 in 2021

|

Gaming laptops have seen the most innovation in the past decade. It would not be wrong to open the article with this statement because the gaming laptops we knew and loved five years before have completely transformed.

Although technological advancement has played a huge role in, we believe that the main driving force that led to transformation was the demand for the product. The gaming laptop wave has swept us all and now gaming laptops are a common sight in business as well as in schools.

While the rapid advancement of gaming laptops is a positive sign for what the future holds for this beloved machine but today in the market there are so many options to choose from that it can be overwhelming even for seasoned gamers.

The price of gaming laptops, in general, is also creeping up with each generation so gamers want a machine within a good price range that will perform for years to come because let’s face us not all of us have the luxury to upgrade gaming laptop every year or so.

For the reason, we have picked a $2000 price bracket for this article. We believe this is the best sweet spot for performance and value. The laptops in this price bracket usually have the top-of-the-line hardware that is on offer for the current generation so they will stay relevant in terms of performance even after a few years.

Truth be told, the $2000 price bracket for gaming laptops has received a lot of flak so let’s address that first before we dive into the actual list.

11 Best Gaming Laptops Under $2000 in 2021

Is Buying a Gaming Laptop Under $2000 Worth it?

The people asking this question tend to fall in either of the two camp. The first one having the mantra that $2000 is too less and if you want a good gaming experience you should invest more money into your gaming laptop.

This is absolutely not true. While you can spend more money to get the most loaded gaming laptop and yes, it is also true that a more expensive gaming laptop will provide better performance but are you really getting extra fine gaming experience out of it.

Well, this is where the above statement falls flat on its heel because while you do get better performance out a more expensive laptops but honestly most gamers do not need 20 extra frames in a game in which you are already getting 100 with a sub $2000 gaming laptop. As previously stated $2000 gaming laptops already have high-end components so spending more money will only provide you diminishing returns.

The people in the second camp make a more compelling argument. These people many consist of informed buyers which believe that spending $2000 is too much on a gaming laptop as at this price manufacturers tend to charge you more for the nameplate.

This is true to some extent and nameplates do influence the buyers decision and buying the greatest laptop a manufacturer can have a certain charm to it but on the whole with $2000 laptops you do get a sense of premiumness. Since these laptops are usually the top-of-the-line machine the manufacturers have to offer you also get extra features with them.

Overall, in one way or the other, the price for most of the $2000 laptops is justified but if you are only in the market for performance and nothing which you should not be because there is much more to laptops than just raw performance then this statement can be justified but as things stand it is simply not.

Buyers Guide: The Best Gaming Laptop Under 2000

Buying the best gaming laptop under $2000 for your needs is not just as easy as pointing a finger at the one that looks good. There are a lot of nuances that come with high-end gaming laptops and therefore proper knowledge is required for the best purchase. Some essentials for buying a gaming laptop are the following.

CPU and GPU Performance

The CPU and GPU determine how powerful a laptop is. Gaming obviously, is all about the frame rate and to achieve the maximum frame rate at the best possible graphic setting you need powerful hardware.

Regardless of which platform you go for both AMD and Intel are solid options in the gaming laptop space. However, for the best performance you should go with AMD Ryzen processors because they offer better performance than their intel counterpart and are also more efficient leading to battery life.

As for the graphics card, the latest generation Nvidia RTX cards are a literal revolution. Such massive generation performance gap was unheard of before the RTX cards came into the picture. For a current generation gaming laptop, you should definitely go with a Nvidia RTX graphic card and for your convenience all the laptops in this list come with RTX graphics.

Cooling

Proper heat dissipation is astronomically important in a gaming laptop. Since gaming laptops have powerful components, they generate a lot of heat and as we all know excessive buildup of heat can lead to thermal throttling.

Without a proper cooling solution, no matter how powerful your hardware is it will not be able to perform at the maximum capacity. Good laptops are the ones that efficiently dissipate heat through the complex system of heat pipes, fans and air exhaust vents.

Sufficient Storage and RAM

While we do get that RAM and storage depend on the individual’s use and there is no right or wrong number when it comes to the RAM and Storage. Still, it does not hurt in having more RAM and storage than required. We recommend having at least 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space for a reliable gaming experience.

Display

The display is one of the most important aspects of any laptop let alone a gaming one. For gaming a high refresh rate screen is as important as a color accurate one. High refresh rate makes gaming so much smoother and eliminates any jaggedness that you may encounter.

Fortunately, today 144hz is the minimum in gaming laptops and some have even crossed the 300hz mark.

If you are a hardcore competitive gamer and play games shooting games like CSGO or Rainbow Six Siege, then get the gaming laptop that supports the highest refresh rate panel. Real world tests also show that high refresh rate provides an advantage in fast paced that rely on a lot of motion.

Aesthetics

The latest trend in the gaming industry revolves around aesthetics. Aesthetics have become so important that some people primarily buy laptops based on aesthetics. While this is not preferred way of buying a gaming laptop but fortunately most laptops now base their design around aesthetics so in this list you will not find a laptop that looks unpleasant.

Construction and Chassis

Thin and light gaming laptops are becoming increasingly popular and due to the demand, most manufacturers are slimming down the chassis of their respective laptops. Not all thin and light gaming laptops are built equal though and before you buy a slim laptop make sure it has solid construction.

I/0

I/O refers to the input and output ports. A gaming laptop is used as a workhouse and therefore should have all the necessary ports required for everyday use. For starters a laptop should have plenty of USB ports, couple of different display output ports, thunderbolt port, and an SD card slot. There are essentials and every laptop should contain these for seamless and hassle free connectivity.

1. Razer Blade 15

Best Gaming Laptop Under $2000

Razer is an industry darling and they have managed to build a loyal community around their products. Razer Blade 15 is a household name in the gaming laptop scene and is adored by the gaming crowd. Razer refreshes this laptop every generation and the 2021 model has garnered positive due to some major quality of life changes implemented by Razer. These changes are significant and make Razer Blade 15 the best gaming laptop under $2000.

Design and Build Quality

The design is classic razer. Ever since the release of the first blade 15, it always had an understated design and this iteration retains the minimalist aesthetic. This gaming laptop with its industrial chassis can be easily mistaken for an everyday professional laptop.

Had it not been for the Razer logo on the laptop’s lid people would have a hard time figuring the intention of this laptop. The logo also has green illumination which looks rather pleasing against the matte black color scheme of the laptop.

To add some flare to the aesthetics Razer has included the chroma RGB keyboard on the Blade 15. The chroma RGB keyboard is still the best in the business and powering the laptop shows the uniform yet bright RGB lighting of the keyboard.

Another area where Razer leads the competition is the build quality. The CNC milled aluminum chassis of the laptop is not only solid but also feels very good to the touch. It has a waxy quality about it making it easy to grip. The thin but dense chassis also exhibits no flex whatsoever and the overall fit and finish of the laptop is class leading.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

Razer Blade 15 has a short travel keyboard. This is somewhat controversial because most gaming laptops have cushy and tactile keyboards so the folks who have never used a Razer product before will find the typing experience vastly different here. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference, but one thing is for sure this keyboard will require some time to get used too.

The trackpad on the other hand is fantastic. The trackpad has is large as far as gaming laptops go and the surface is smooth and well calibrated. The click also have just the right amount of tension making this trackpad a joy to navigate around.

The speakers are another strong point of the Razer Blade 15. This laptop features front firing speakers that are clear but lack bass. For such a thin laptop one cannot expect the speakers to sound deep and rich, but these speakers are certainly useable for gaming and content consumption.

Display, Battery life and I/O

We also have no complaints with the Razer Blade 15 display. The 1080p panel of this laptop supports 144hz refresh rate which although on the lower end of the spectrum as far as 2021 laptops go but according to the hardware of the laptop it is fine.

This IPS panel also excels in picture quality. The panel is rated for 100% of sRGB coverage and this really shows in the viewing experience. Firing up a video and you will be amazed with the vividness of the colors and the contrast of the scene. Being IPS the panel also has great viewing angles making this panel not only great for gaming but also for watching movies and videos.

Despite having a new screen and better hardware the laptop still supports the small size battery of the previous generation. This does not bode well for the battery life as the laptop crumbles on the fifth hour of light to medium usage. For heavy load you can expect the run time of the laptop to be significantly lower.

Razer has always owned the port game in their slim laptop, and this is no exception. The blade 15 has all the required ports that gamers use of basis and throws in a thunderbolt 3 and a full size UHS-11 card reader for good measure.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

Looking at the slim profile of the laptop from a distance you will be hard pressed to find that it supports an Intel I7 10750H 6 core processor and an Nvidia RTX 3070. The installed 16 RAM of the laptop also runs in dual channel and has fast speeds. Having this powerful hardware is one thing but without proper cooling the components inside cannot thrive.

Well, this the part where we usually talk about the abysmal cooling of thin and light gaming laptops but not here. You see the well-executed vaper chamber system and the network of well position fans and ventilation ports works wonders here. This laptop successfully manages to avoid throttling for most of the part and very rarely the temperatures do exceed the thermal limit.

During the heat elimination process the chassis due to being aluminum does get toasty but thankfully the heat is centered around the edges and the top of the deck. The keyboard area stays relatively cool and useable. If you are sensitive to noise, then there is no point of this thermal performance in this first place because the fan of the laptop is uncomfortably loud so keep that in mind before purchasing the Razer Blade 15.

Therefore, due to the powerful hardware and the efficient cooling system, gaming on this machine is a treat. The laptops runs any game you throw at it at max graphical setting on high frame rate. The less demanding competitive games like CSGO, Siege or Dota shine on the 144hz panel and play buttery smooth.

Pros
Thin and lightweight chassis
Premium build
Best trackpad on a gaming laptop
Chroma RGB keyboard
UHS-11 card SD reader
Front firing speakers
Good gaming performance
Negatives
Not the most comfortable keyboard on a gaming laptop.
Subpar battery life
Loud fan noise is annoying

Conclusion

Razer Blade 15 has consistently remained the best gaming laptop under the $2000 price and for a good reason. Not every gamer wants a desk behemoth and there has been a shift in the gaming laptop industry where thin and light gaming laptops are preferred over gaming notebooks. Due to this Razer finds itself in a good position because the Blade 15 delivers on the promise of being slim and powerful. As things stand, Razer Blade 15 still retains the gaming laptop throne but with the competition catching up Razer might need to innovate soon but for now Razer Blade 15 Base edition is the best laptop under $2000 that you can own.

2. Lenovo Legion 7

Gaming Laptop with the Best Performance

Lenovo has stepped up its game and the recent releases from the company have been nothing short of amazing. The Legion 7 is the most premium laptop the company has to offer, and it is fitted with the best hardware one could find in the industry.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the Lenovo Legion 7 follows in the similar vein as other laptops that are released this year with most of them sharing the common RGB led light bar along the edge of the chassis.

The one featured here on this laptop is not obnoxiously large as the competition. The light bar is barely visible head on due to its recessed position and only illuminates the surface around the laptop. The light bar is also fully customizable through the corsair iCue software. The keyboard on this laptop is also RGB and adds to overall flare of the machine.

The most distinguishing design element of the laptop however is the inclusion of RGB lighting for the exhaust vents. This is the last place you would expect RGB lighting to be in, but it actually looks good.

Another upside of buying the Lenovo Legion 7 laptop is that you get an all-metal build for this chassis. The metal chassis not only feels premium in the hand but also provides the rigidity needed for a such a large sized body. Surprisingly, for such a tanky and solid device the laptop chassis is relatively thin.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

The keyboard and the trackpad of the Lenovo legion 7i are mediocre. This laptop features a full-sized keyboard that contains a number pad as well. Due to the number pad the trackpad of the laptop is not centered on the chassis but rather shifted towards the left. In terms of typing the keyboard is comfortable but lacks the tactile rebound.

For such a large laptop this trackpad feels miniscule in comparable and using it is not ergonomic. In terms of tracking, it is alright though and gets the job done. The mediocrity continuous to the speakers as well and the bottom firing speakers on the laptop are passable but nothing special.

Display, Battery life and I/O

The display of the legion 7 is incredible. Rarely, we run into gaming laptops with such good displays and anyone who buys this laptop is in for a treat. In terms of the stats, the 1080p IPS panel of the laptop has a refresh rate of 240hz. While this is not impressive on its own because competitors also have similar refresh rate but the quite literally the beaty of this panel is the picture quality.

The panel is calibrated accurately out of the box and produces rich and vivid colors. It fully covers the sRGB color gamut while having a 90% DPI-P3 coverage. The brightness is also on the higher side coming in at 500 nits so no worries with the outdoor usage as well. Due to this excellent screen the battery life takes a toll.

This laptop only managed to last for 5 hours on light use and when gaming or performing heavy tasks the battery died within an hour. For a modern gaming laptop these figures are honestly shocking and way behind the competition. This is not a major issue though because gaming laptop are mostly used on brick power and for this the power port of the laptop is conveniently position away from other necessary ports. As for the other ports, this laptop features the full suite of I/O and even thunderbolt port is available on this laptop.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

The Lenovo legion 7 has top of the line hardware and while this sounds exciting this high-end hardware is the Achilles heel of the laptop. While on paper an RTX 2080 Super Max-Q and an Intel I7 10750H combination is to enough to catch attention of hardcore gamers but the insufficient cooling of the laptop does not do justice to the components.

This is not to say that the hardware inside this machine is useful though. While not being pushed at their maximum the CPU and the GPU still push out great numbers. This laptop is easily the best performing one on the list and while it does throttle here and there but still the overall performance of the machine is praiseworthy.

To compliment the high performing CPU and the GPU, this laptop also has 16GB of fast RAM which is installed in a dual channel configuration. By default, for the storage, you only get a 512GB drive which will be eaten up quickly but thankfully there is a vacant M2 slot on the motherboard which can be used to expand the storage.

Pros
Solid and rigid chassis
Subtle yet elegant RGB lighting
Full-sized keyboard that includes a number pad
Excellent display
240hz refresh rate
Best performance of any laptop in this list
Negatives
The keyboard and the trackpad can be better
The thermal performance is not up to the mark
Middling battery life
Loud fan

Conclusion

Lenovo Legion 7 is a great choice for the gamers who yearn performance more than anything. While this laptop is not the best looking or has the best feeling chassis, but it does beat all other laptops in terms performance due to the high-end hardware of the machine. This laptop has the best RTX 2080 Super which is the best graphic card Nvidia offers. If you want the best performance out of your laptop then give this laptop a shot.

3. Asus Zephyrus G15

Best Thin and Light Gaming Laptop Under $2000

Asus revolutionized the thin and light gaming laptop genre with the release of their first Zephyrus laptop. With each generation, the Zephyrus line was gotten better and now we are at a point where Asus can finally lay claim as to having the best thin and light gaming laptop under $2000 in the form of Zephyrus G15.

Design and Build Quality

The recent design trend in the laptop gaming market encourages more industrial and simplistic designs. Asus has wholeheartedly embraced this change and has given Zephyrus a very minimalist design.

The laptop has a CNC milled aluminum construction and is available in either white or shadow color. Regardless of which color you go for, there is minimal branding to be seen here. The top of the laptop is clean with the Asus branding recessed to the corner of the lid.

To add a slight flare to the design the laptop’s lid has a micro-dotted pattern. It is not excessive and does not garner much attention though making this laptop a perfect daily companion. It is perfectly adequate for professional settings as well as for home use or gaming.

The reason this laptop qualifies as being the best thin and light gaming laptop is because it measures less than an inch thick. If this was not impressive enough the weight of the laptop is around 4 pounds making it ideal for daily carry.

Despite being slim and relatively lightweight Asus has not skimped on the build quality. This laptop has an all-metal chassis and is built like a tank. There is minimal flex in the keyboard deck and the hinge area is also well reinforced. The only minor nitpick we have in the build quality department is that despite having premium materials the in-hand feel of the laptop is subpar when compared to other high-end laptops.

Keyboard, TrackPad, and Speakers

As far as modern laptops go Zephyrus G15 has one of the best keyboards in its class. The keys on this laptop feel crisp and tactile. They also have a decent amount of travel making this keyboard one of the best for long typing sessions.

The trackpad also follows a similar story. It has a large surface area and is centrally placed on the deck. The click mechanism on the trackpad is also solid and does not feel sticky or flimsy. Asus also deserves a pat on the back for the tuning of the trackpad. The surface is smooth and finger tracking is top-notch. Gestures are also recognized flawlessly. All in all, Asus is providing you with a great trackpad here.

Unfortunately, the praises for the laptop end here because we were thoroughly disappointed by the speakers. This laptop shipped with blown-out speakers and this issue was experienced by many people. The recent software update seems to have remedied the situation somewhat but the speaker still sounds bad. This is a quality control issue so buy this laptop from a retailer that accepts returns.

Display, Battery life, and I/O

Asus Zephyrus G15 has a 1440p IPS panel with a 165hz refresh rate. The panel also supports adaptive sync and is therefore compatible with both Nvidia and AMD. When talking about picture quality the panels also supports full coverage of the sRGB color gamut.

While these specifications on paper may sound captivating but in reality, the panel out of the box is dull and uninspiring. After fiddling with some settings we were able to restore correct settings for the panel by turning off the battery saver in AMD software. With this battery saver turned off, the panel comes to life. You get the vividness and saturation of IPS technology coupled with excellent color reproduction.

Even after turning off the battery saver, the battery life of this laptop was remarkable considering its size and the power that is available here. This laptop easily lasted 6-7 hours of causal use with the brightness cranked to the limit. One can easily get an hour or more with the brightness turned down. We recommend gaming on brick power but still in case of an emergency you can expect this laptop to last a couple of hours when gaming.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

Asus Zephyrus G15 comes with the latest and the best Ryzen has to offer. The Ryzen 5900hs processor incorporated in this laptop has 8 core and 16 threads. The graphic horsepower in this laptop is handled by RTX 3060 which is a plenty capable card.

With such specification, this laptop pretty much chews through any AAA game title you throw at it. It constantly hits the 60+ fps sweet spot although for a higher refresh rate you will need to turn down the settings a bit.

For multitasking and professional work you also get 16GB ram with this laptop which is upgradable to 24GB. The storage is handled by a 512GB PCIe NVMe drive. We were also thoroughly impressed by the thermals of this laptop.

The laptop never throttles due to excessive heat and temperatures remained in the 80-90 range. Although we could hear the fan when gaming or doing intensive tasks the noise still never became overbearing for comfortable use.

Pros
Thin and lightweight chassis
Subtle yet unique and appealing design
Very comfortable keyboard to type on
Large and precise trackpad
1440p 165hz refresh rate panel
Good battery life for a thin and light gaming laptop
Negatives
Horrible speakers with crackling issue
The CNC milled holes on the lid are a pain to clean
512GB space is not enough for storing games

Conclusion

Ever since Asus updated the Zephyrus lineup with the Ryzen processor it has been a fan favorite. This latest Zephyrus G15 takes the whole lineup up a notch with the newly updated Ryzen 5900hs processor and the latest generation of Nvidia RTX 3060 graphic card. There was little wrong with the previous generation Zephyrus and since now most of the issues except for the speaker have been rectified this laptop is a no brainer. If you are in the market for a thin and light gaming laptop then you cannot go wrong with the Asus Zephyrus G15.

4. Dell Alienware M15 R4

Best Premium Gaming Laptop Under $2000

Dell is no stranger to high-end gaming laptop niche. They have always dominated this particular category with their Alienware line of laptops.  Dell has aggressively positioned this next iteration of the Alienware M15 laptop and this R4 generation of laptops are all poised to take on the competitors.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the Alienware laptop has not much changed since a few refreshes. Dell found a winning formula and have stuck with it gradually refining out the rough edges of the design.

The immediate thing you feel about this laptop is how premium the chassis is for a gaming laptop. This laptop can easily hang with the premium ultrabooks out there which is a big statement because this level of build and refinement is not usually the forte of gaming laptops.

Premiumness aside, a gaming laptop has to be functional in its design and fortunately Dell being a seasoned manufacturer knows this. Everything design plugin on this laptop is there to facilitate the user. We especially like the placement of the ventilation ports. Since they are on the back of the laptop hot air is directly blown out without your lap becoming toasty.

The build quality should be self-explanatory be now. The premium feel of this laptop is not confined to the aesthetics but also the build quality. The construction of the body is immaculate, and it exhibits no flex on either the keyboard deck or the laptop’s lid whatever.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

The keyboard and the trackpad as another for Dell. Let’s start with the trackpad. Most manufacturers don’t bother with trackpad on a gaming laptop because it is not utilized much by gamers but Dell on the other hand have bestowed us with a trackpad that is not only praiseworthy but is easily industry leading.

This is one the better trackpads you can have on a gaming laptop. The keyboard is something which gamers do interact with on daily basis, and we are pleased to inform you that Dell has done a phenomenal here as well. The keystrokes are a good travel and feel crisp and tactile. The rebound is also well sprung without being too twitchy. Overall, you will more than happy with the keyboard and the trackpad of the Alienware M15 R4.

The same praises cannot be hurled for the speakers though. The speakers on this laptop are mediocre at best. In a pinch they cann get the job done but recommend using external speakers for the best gaming and content consumption experience.

Display, Battery Life and I/O

Being a base variant this version of the Alienware M15 R4 gets a lower tier display. Now hold on before you bash dell for this, known that although you are getting less fancy specification the display itself is quite decent.

The panel of this laptop supports 144hz refresh rate with a response time of 3ms. For the performance 144hz is perfect choice for this laptop because anything more will provide diminishing returns. The panel is also lively and has good color accuracy therefore providing an eye appealing viewing experience.

The battery is nothing spectacular. Battery life is an area where Dell needs to up their game. As for the figures you can expect a battery life of 5 hours on light usage and 2 hours when the laptop is pushed. This does not involve gaming though just heavy tasks.

Good I/O is vital for any successful gaming laptop. Despite manufacturers skipping some ports to slim down the chassis Dell has still retained the full-fledged I/O here. With this laptop you get 3x USB-A ports, an ethernet port, micro SD slot, 3.5mm combo headphone jack, HDMI port, thunderbolt 3, mini-display port and the Alienware proprietary graphic enhance port. The barrel type power plug is also conveniently placed on the back of the laptop for more ergonomic cable management.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

Alienware M15 R4 performs exactly as expected. The combination of 10th generation Intel i7 and RTX 3060 provides juicy horsepower. The well-ventilated chassis of the laptop is able to push these components to their maximum making it the best in its class for the given specifications.

The laptop is not a slouch either in storage. Dell is providing you with a 512GB NVME SSD which although not being the largest tops the char in terms of speeds. For multitasking you are getting 8gb of ram which is on the low side but since the ram is not soldered onto the motherboard it can be upgraded later on without any hassle.

This laptop also impresses in terms of cooling and thermals. These intel I7 chips are horrendous for throttling but somehow this laptop keeps the temperature of the chip controlled. This is all thanks to the efficient heat dissipation system engineered for this machine. The laptop also manages this without making the fan sound drowny which in our eyes is a massive achievement.

Pros
Neat
Premium build and feel
Smooth and precise trackpad
Excellent I/O selection
144hz refresh rate and 3ms response time
Negatives
Speakers lack the impact on low
Battery life is subpar compared to today’s standard
8gb ram is not sufficient for heavy tasks and multitasking

Conclusion

Dell has once again proved why the Alienware series sits at the hierarchy of gaming laptops. This laptop simply put is the most premium device you can have for gaming. This is a no compromise machine, and everything is here is the best possible the manufacturer could manage. Although being short on specs when compared with the competition in the similar price range this laptops delivers a much more premium gaming experience compared to them. We seem to be repeating the word premium here but that is the main theme of the laptop be it in terms of build quality or gaming experience.

5. Asus ROG Strix Scar 15

Gaming Laptop with the most RGB

Asus has been on a roll lately, cranking out laptops like nobody’s business. The company now has different series of gaming laptop specialized for specific conditions. The Scar series enjoys the hierarchy status in Asus’s gaming laptop lineup and this ROG Strix Scar 15 is the most premium fully loaded gaming laptop Asus has to offer.

Design and Build Quality

Asus laptops tend to have more flashy designs and the manufacturer is not afraid to experiment with new stuff. For this generation of the Scar 15, the new design feature we get is the removeable ROG plates.

These plates are situation in the left corner of the device at the edge of the lid. In the box Asus has supplied three different plates you can choose from or else you can also make your own 3rd party custom plates.

In this laptop we also get a front mounted light bar. This light bar is bright and provides good illumination around the front of the device. Another small RGB light bar is also placed on the bezel of the screen that illuminates the keyboard deck. The RGB craze does not end here and the ROG logo on the lid is also RGB.

Aesthetics are nice but unfortunately Asus has gone overboard in the regard and skimped on the feel and the build of the product. The laptop is made entirely out of plastic which does not strike as premium especially when other competitors are available with full aluminum builds. Despite being made from the plastic the construction of the chassis is good but for the amount Asus is charging metal casing would have been more appropriate.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

The keyboard of this laptop is optomechanical. This kind of mechanical keyboard is very different from traditional laptop keyboards so check the keyboard beforehand if you want to purchase this laptop. With a mechanical keyboard you get much crispier key actuation, but the downside is that the sound of the click is a lot more than traditional laptop keyboard.

The glass trackpad of this laptop works fine but is nothing special. It just the job done for basic tasks and that is all it needs to do because for you will be using mouse most of the time anyway for gaming. The speakers also warrant no appreciation because they are not impressive. They volume is fine, but they lack the depth and the richness.

Display, Battery life and I/0

Scar 15 has a capable display to fully utilize its hardware. The panel used in this machine has a refresh rate of 144hz with a 3ms response time. The screen is also adaptive sync compatible making it fantastic for competitive esports gaming.

The panel is also IPS and has a resolution of 1080p. Even for a gaming laptop content consumption is still important and this an area where this laptop falls flat. Although Asus has accurately calibrated the panel it still lacks the richness of the colors. The contrast is also mediocre but then again for most gamers out there picture quality is not the main concern and some might argue the dull panel is better for competitive gaming.

This laptop also does not disappoint in the battery life department. It has a large 90W battery that is capable of keeping the laptop afloat for 5-6 hours under light usage such as browsing the web. When gaming, this laptop suffers the same fate and continuous gaming on this machine kills the battery in an hour or two.

Since this is a fully fledged gaming laptop you also do not have to worry about the ports. This laptop features a rich I/O containing all the ports you will need for a gaming laptop. The typical ports that are used on daily basis like USB-A slots and the power plug are also conveniently position for the most ergonomic handling.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

The Asus ROG Scar 15 is powered by the latest and greatest Ryzen processor the company has to offer. Code named the Ryzen 5900hx, this processor has 8 cores and 16 threads. This is the maximum number of cores you can get in a gaming laptop.

As one would expect this processor demolishes its competitors and reigns supreme in terms of performance. This powerful processor is paired with Nvidia RTX 3060 graphic card. This GPU is known for being the best in the business when it comes to 1080p gaming.

The Ryzen 5900hx and Nvidia RTX 3060 combo in this laptop makes short work of any game at 1080p resolution and has the capability to deliver triple digits frames in games. Competitive games like CSGO, Valorant or Siege especially run great on this machine. They break the 144fps barrier taking advantage of the high refresh rate display.

RAM is also important for smooth laptop operation and happy to report that this laptop comes with 16GB of RAM. The only thing we did not like about this laptop is the inclusion of only 512GB NVME drive. 512GB is this day and age is not sufficient and will run out quickly. Fortunately, this laptop has a slot for an additional M2 NVME drive which can be used to expand the storage.

In terms of thermals, this laptop does a decent job. There is nothing impressive about the thermal solution of this laptop and it is similar to many other high-end laptops. This tried and tested thermal cooling solution gets the job done without making any component throttle. The fan noise is also controlled but it ramps up quickly under continuous gaming.

Pros
Bright and flashy RGB lighting
Replaceable ROG plates add sense of individuality
Great I/O
Ryzen 5900hx processor is a beast
16GB of RAM
Negatives
Plastic build feels cheap
1080p 144hz display not on par with other competitors
Lackluster picture quality
512GB storage is not sufficient

Conclusion

Asus Strix Scar 15 is one of most premium Ryzen gaming laptop. The Ryzen 5900hx has been all the rage lately because it delivers fantastic performance and Asus was quick to adopt it. The optomechanical keyboard is also a unique aspect of this laptop and for some it might be deciding factor. With the Asus you are also getting a handsome package with a great looking chassis that is loaded with RGB lighting.

6. MSI GE66 Raider

Best looking Gaming Laptop

The motto of the MSI GE66 is light me up. By this you can make a rough estimate that MSI has pumped great effort into the design of this laptop. Indeed, this effort has paid off and MSI has made one of the best-looking laptop in the price $2000 price tag.

Design and Aesthetics

To simply put this laptop is gorgeous. MSI has managed to create a laptop that has an appealing and tempting design. Even the people who are into gaming laptops will appreciate the design of this machine.

To achieve the beauty, MSI has made a chassis with just the right amount of flare. The lid of the laptop has an industrial design with a matte silver finish. The MSI logo is also silver and does not light up. The magic however begins, when you power up the laptop. Right away, you are presented with a front mounted RGB lightbar covering the whole width of the chassis.

Besides being bright and flashy like every other light bar the light distribution of this is also very consistent. The smooth matte black finish of the keyboard deck also adds nice contrast to the bright RGB lighting. The keyboard itself is RGB and all the lighting of the laptop is customizable via the MSI software.

MSI has managed to great aesthetics without compromising on the build quality of the laptop. Most of the laptop is made from metal, this also includes the keyboard deck. The laptop also exhibits minimal flex or wobble, and all the pieces seems to be well put together.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

The MSI GE66 raider is among the few laptops that still feature a traditional rubber dome keyboard. This keyboard has a similar feel when compared with older generation laptops and the keys have a good tactile action. The key travel is also satisfactory, and the keys do not bottom out instantly providing a very comfortable typing experience.

The trackpad of the laptop is also just your usual stuff. There is nothing few to talk about and although the trackpad is one the smaller it is still precise and comfortable to use. The speakers on the other hand of this laptop are abysmal. The bass is nonexistent and the clearly of the audio is also lacking. With this laptop we advise using a headphone for a good audio experience.

Display, Battery life and I/O

The display is one the highlights of this laptop. It has a 240hz 1080p display. 240hz refresh rate is a step up from the 144hz refresh rate commonly found in other laptops. The display of this laptop is also good for content consumption because of the 100% sRGB coverage. The brightness and the contrast of this panel is also excellent, and this panel has good outdoor legibility.

For the battery, MSI has crammed the largest battery they could. The 99W battery is the maximum allowed on planes and this is the only laptop we that includes a battery this large. Due to having a massive sized battery this laptop easily manages a 6-7 hour screen on time when performing light tasks, browsing and playing videos. Things get a little wild when gaming, but this laptop still manages to provide a 2 hour gaming time on battery backup which is impressive to say the least.

The I/0 of the MSI GE66 is also great. Ports are scattered on the left, right and the back of the device with the power and display ports being on the back. This proves to be more ergonomic and allows for better cable management. With this laptop you also get thunderbolt 3 support which future proofs the machine.

Gaming Performance and thermals

When you head over to the promotional page of this laptop on MSI’s website, the company proudly features the cooling system they have installed in this laptop. Claims aside, this laptop does indeed display great cooling performance.

The hardware of this machine is beefy, the 6 core 12 thread intel I7 10750H processor and the Nvidia RTX 2070 Super produce a lot of heat, but this laptop manages to contain the heat and properly cools the components. This laptop never throttles even under heavy tasks or continuous gaming but the fan does get loud when gaming but that is to be expected.

As for the other specifications, this laptop comes with 32 GB RAM and a 1TB M2 NVME drive. The drive is fast, and the ram is plentiful so no complains here. For storage upgrade you also get a vacant slot under the removeable back cover.

These are near top-of-the-line specifications for a laptop, and it shows when gaming. Regardless of the game you throw at it this MSI GE66 performs like a champ. Even the heaviest of games are playable on this laptop and the likes of Red Dead Redemption, Assassin’s creed Valhalla easily cross the 60fps sweet spot. For esports games you can also take advantage of the high refresh rate because the RTX 2070 Super can play titles like CSGO, Valorant, Dota at over 200fps.

Pros
Great Aesthetics
Good build quality
Comfortable keyboard to type on
Excellent battery life for a powerful gaming laptop
240hz 1080p display
Good cooling
Negatives
The trackpad is on the shorter side
Abysmal speakers
Fan gets very loud

Conclusion

MSI has hit a home run with the GE66 Raider, and this currently might be the best laptop MSI has to offer. This laptop is a complete package and pretty much ticks all the necessary boxes. It has a great design that is not overwhelming with tasteful RGB implementation. The 240hz 1080p screen is fantastic and the hardware is strong enough to support that screen. Overall, as a package this laptop is hard to beat. It may not dominate in a single category but on the whole is an absolute winner. The great design is just an icing on the cake and seals the deal for an already great machine.

7. MSI GS75 Thin

Best 17 inch Gaming Laptop Under $2000

Despite having fallen out of the spotlight 17 inch gaming laptops are still useful and required. Not everyone wants a portable machine and the many who primarily use their laptop on a desk value the large screen size. Today however, there are not many large screen laptops around and from the ones that do exist the MSI MS75 Thin sticks out.

Design and Build Quality

The MSI GS75 is the most boring looking laptop in this list. The laptop is not boring to look at because it is plain but rather because it looks like most other gaming laptops. The brushed aluminum lid with the red MSI logo is also something we are accustomed too so nothing special here.

Some style points are added back to laptop’s tally by having an RGB keyboard. The lighting of the keyboard is bright and customization. You can create custom effects as well with the MSI software.

While design may not be interesting, MSI has nailed the build quality of the laptop. The laptop is made from premium materials and has a good feels dense to hold. The lid has minimal wobble while the keyboard deck exhibits little flex under pressure. The overall construction of the chassis earns full points for being solid and sturdy.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

Keyboards in laptops are usually of two types. Some are crisp with low travel while others are tactile with deep travel. The keyboard featured on this laptop is of the tactile variety and has good per key travel. This configuration is great for continuous key presses which will happen if you are gaming.

The trackpad is on the shorter but gets the job done. The glass surface is smooth and tracks precisely. It gets the job done and for most of the time you will be using a gaming mouse so the shorter size does not hinder the experience here. The speakers also get the job done and are nothing special. They lack bass and the depth so for gaming we recommend using headphones but for watching videos these speakers will be adequate.

Display, Battery life and I/O

On paper this laptop has an awesome screen with 144hz refresh rate. While the high refresh rate and the low response time part is accurate the real-world viewing experience of the panel is not the best. The panel suffers from lackluster color reproduction, and the contrast is also weak. This panel truth be told is not great but then again when gaming you will not notice the weak picture quality of the panel.

Due to having a large screen and powerful hardware the battery life of the laptop is also not impressive. The 51W battery manages to keep the laptop running for only 4-5 hours on light. When gaming the battery runs out of juice within an hour. The terrible battery life is the weakest aspect of this laptop.

Having a large size body leaves a lot of room for ports and MSI has took full advantage of that. This laptop is brimming with ports and features all the necessary ones. The positioning of the ports is also great, and everything is laid out logically. Being on the Intel platform this laptop also has a thunder port 3 port.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

Most people buying this laptop will probably look at it as a desktop replacement, so performance is important. If you are looking at this laptop with that point of view you won’t be disappointed here.

This laptop features the latest Intel and Nvidia has to offer. The I7 10750H processor is a 6 core 12 thread monster with great multi core as well as single core performance. The only negative about this processor is that it produces performance at the expensive of power draw and excessive heat dissipation.

The Nvidia RTX 3060 processor is also a great performer. This card is also relatively efficient when compared with the processor. This laptop also features 16GB of RAM. Having 16GB RAM preinstalled expands the multitasking capability of the laptop. The only weakness of this laptop is the limited storage capacity of the machine. 512GB storage on gaming laptops is just not enough these days when only single games can occupy up to 100GB of space.

The thermals performance of this laptop is also impressive and when playing demanding games, the laptop never throttled. Albeit the fans ramped up very loud and were annoyingly when not wearing headphone.

Pros
Solid build and construction
RGB keyboard
Comfortable typing experience
Good gaming performance
Decent cooling performance
Negatives
Boring and bland design
Only 512GB storage space
Loud fan

Conclusion

As far as large screen gaming laptops go MSI GF75 is a winner. Not many of these plus sized gaming laptops exists and the only that do exist are not a good deal. The MSI GS75 strikes a good balance of price and performance and although it falls behind the top performing gaming laptops, we must factor in the price difference as well. All things considered; for the price of $1650 we believe the MSI GF75 is the best 17inch laptop under $2000 that you can buy.

8. Gigabyte Aorus 15G KC

Gaming Laptop with the Best Display

Despite being great Gigabyte laptop’s slip under the radar of most people. The brand has still failed to crack the code when it comes to marketing the product to the consumers. This is not to say that the laptops are bad because honestly its quite the opposite which you will find out now and maybe after all this you will also end up appreciating the Gigabyte Aorus 15G KC for what it is.

Design and Build Quality

In the design department Gigabyte tend to do things their own way and rarely follow the popular trend of the industry. Many laptops have now moved to more flashy designs, but this Aorus is keeping things simple here.

This laptop is the most minimalist gaming laptop you can get right now. Exterior wise there are flashy and blingy elements to the design of this laptop. All you get to see is the matte black finish of the chassis with the silver Aorus logo. Got to be honest though, the Aorus logo on this machine looks very appealing and high-end.

Opening the lid reveals some RGB lighting in the form of keyboard lighting but that too is executed in a subtle manner. Nothing in terms of design feels overwhelming and this laptop completely embodies the minimalist philosophy.

The build of the laptop is also simple and old school. The materials used for the construction of the body are not the best, but the laptop feels solid and sturdy. Overall, there is nothing to rave or complain about here.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

Gigabyte Aorus 15G has a great feeling keyboard to type on. Each keystroke has good amount of cushion without being mushy. The rebound of the keys is tactile and satisfying as well. This laptop is also among the few 15-inch laptops that have a number pad. So if that is your thing you will like the keyboard of this laptop.

The trackpad is also fine. Frankly speaking for most of the time you will use a mouse anyway for gaming so trackpad does not matter that much but for everyday use it will get the job done. Since this laptop has a full-sized keyboard, the speakers unfortunately are relegated to the bottom of the chassis. Bottom firing speakers are never ideal, and this laptop is no exception. The speakers here are fine for using on a pinch but for proper audio listening we recommend an external headphone solution.

Display, Battery life and I/0

The display of this laptop is straight up fantastic. This laptop not only has a 1080p 240hz refresh rate but the panel technology here is also IPS. IPS panels are known for having deep blacks and color reproduction and indeed the panel on this laptop is bright and vivid. The viewing angles of the panel are also great, and you can easily watch a movie without any deterrence.

Gigabyte has also installed a massive 90W battery in this laptop. Large sized battery was really needed for the machine because of the power-hungry hardware of this laptop. When fully charged the laptop easily lasts for 5-6 hours on light use like browsing and watching YouTube while gaming can empty the battery within 2 hours.

The I/O is the last part you should worry about of this laptop because this laptop features a rich selection of ports. All the typical ports you would expect are found here with the addition of a MUX switch. The MUX switch is a toggle switch that allows you to switch between Nvidia dedicated graphics or Intel integrated graphics. This switch is helpful is a situation where you want the battery to last just a little bit longer.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

We will keep this section short because this laptop features the same hardware as now you would have seen in countless other laptops in this price range. Powering the laptop is an Intel I7 10870H. This is the best 6 core 12 thread processor Intel has to offer.

On the graphic front is Nvidia RTX 3060 which we all know by now is a great 1080p and even 1440p performer. This card paired with the 1080p 240hz screen of the laptop provides great gaming experience. As for the RAM, the laptop has dual channel 32GB RAM making this laptop viable for any memory intensive task.

The only thing short of being optimal is the storage space of this laptop. This laptop only has a single 512GB SSD and if you are gamer, you know the hassle of using 500GB storage. It is just simply not enough for storing games when only a single game like COD Warzone is over 100GB. There is however, an additional M2 SATA socket which you can use to expand the storage.

Pros
Minimalist and simple design
Padded key feel with a good tactile return
Full sized keyboard includes number pad
Battery lasts a complete day on light to medium usage
240hz 1080p display has the most accurate colors in any gaming laptop
Negatives
Not the most thermal efficient machine
The fan is very sensitive and audible most of the time

Conclusion

Gigabyte Aorus 15G is not your typical gaming laptop. This machine has one the best display on the market that not only supports a high 240hz refresh rate but also has great color accuracy making the laptop perfectly suitable for not only gaming but color grade color work. The hardware of the machine is also top-notch, and this laptop has enough performance to breeze through any game or productivity application. Overall, the Aorus 15G KC is more than a gaming laptop and you can use it for professional color tasks or for enjoying movies and videos on the go.

9. Asus Tuf Dash

Best Intel 11th generation laptop under $2000

Asus Tuf gaming laptop lineup is the mid-range gaming offering from Asus. The main core objective of the Asus TUF laptops is to provide high-end specifications and a hassle-free gaming experience to consumers that do not want to invest in the flashier laptops with sometimes redundant features.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the Asus Tuf is simple, industrial and purposeful. There are no vents or cuts on the laptop that does not fulfill a purpose. The muted color scheme of the laptop also takes it more in the business category which is not a bad thing because this laptop is meant to be used in any situation.

The only thing holding the laptop back from completely looking like a business notebook is the Tuf branding on the left side of the lid. The word Tuf is spelled out in Block letters signifying that this laptop has more to it than the typical business notebooks.

Despite not being a premium laptop the build quality of the Asus Tuf F15 is surprisingly good. Yes, the chassis is made from plastic, but it seems to be well put together. There is no wobble to the screen and only when pressing firmly the keyboard deck flexes a bit.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

The surprisingly thing here is that the keyboard of the Asus Tuf laptop is not RGB. Asus has gone with teal backlighting for the keyboard, and this is the only color you get. Although you do have the option to turn off the lighting completely if you find the teal keyboard backlight off-putting. In terms of actual key feel this is one of the more comfortable keyboards to type on.

The trackpad on the other hand is not as good as the keyboard. Despite having a smooth glass surface the tracking is not precise. The trackpad is also on the shorter side which hinders some of the free movement. It will get the job done but it is better to use a mouse with the laptop regardless of if you are playing games or not.

The speakers were the most surprising aspect of this laptop. On paper two bottom firing speakers do not found fancy but the real-world performance of them is pretty good. The speakers on this laptop can by no means match front firing speakers but for what they are, they actually sound pretty good.

Display, Battery life and I/O

The display was another surprise. One does not expect a mid-range gaming laptop to have such an amazing display. For starters the IPS panel of this laptop has a 240hz refresh rate with a 3ms response time. The color coverage of the panel is also very good with the panel being rated for 100% of sRGB. The display is also bright and oozing with colors. The figures here are better than some more expensive laptops.

The battery life of this laptop is quite literally of charts. We do not know how Asus tuned hardware but the 76W battery of the laptop lasts for 7-8 hours on light use. You should not be gaming on battery power but hey on a pinch if it is needed, this laptop will last around 2 hours before running out of juice.

The I/O is also impressive. The power plug and the USB ports are on the opposite side therefore you will have no problems of using a mouse with the laptop when charging the machine. This laptop also has a single thunderbolt port which is great to see on a mid-range laptop.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

The Asus Tuf Dash gaming laptop has impressive specifications. It is the only laptop on the list to feature 11th generation Intel processor. The 11th generation is the most recent release of Intel. The laptop also has a latest generation Nvidia RTX 3070 graphic card.

By seeing the components, one would expect this laptop to blow away the competition but unfortunately this is not the case. Despite having great hardware this laptop suffers from the throttling. The hardware of this laptop cannot perform at its maximum and therefore some performance is left out on the plate.

In the next iteration of the Tuf gaming laptop Asus should either revamp the cooling system completely or refrain from putting high-end components into this chassis. Leaving that you do get solid 24GB of RAM and 1TB M2 NVME drive. The RAM of this laptop is arranged in dual channel configuration and both the RAM, and the drive have fast speeds.

Pros
Simple and purposeful design
Comfortable keyboard
Decent speakers
Intel 11th generation processor
240hz refresh rate
Good battery life
Negatives
Plastic construction does not feel premium
The trackpad lacks precision
Insufficient cooling for the hardware

Conclusion

Asus Tuf Dash is companies take on a high performing laptop with a not so high price tag. While Asus has delivered on the claim by packing latest generation hardware in this laptop with a fair price tag the problem is that due to insufficient cooling the hardware cannot perform at its maximum potential. The throttling is evident when you push the system hard but for everyday use it is acceptable. Hence despite the latest generation hardware we won’t recommend the Asus Tuf to hardcore gamers but for productivity tasks and playing sports tittles the laptop is fine.

10. Acer Triton 500

Best Budget Gaming Laptop Under $2000

Meet the Acer Triton 500 a thin and light gaming laptop from Acer that has is brought to the market to compete with the likes of Asus Zephyrus but despite being a good laptop it is an outcry to the Zephyrus in terms of customer reach and sales. Despite it being not so popular among the masses we reckon it is a great gaming laptop and this is the reason the Acer Triton 500 belongs on the list.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the Acer triton is rather generic and common. Perhaps, this is the reason the laptop was not able to intercept the mainstream market. Nonetheless, there are some elements in the design that make the laptop stand out among the crowd.

The right one being the blue illuminated predator logo in the lid of the laptop. Unfortunately, the logo cannot be changed, and blue color is your only option. The keyboard on the other hand features per key RGB lighting. The RGB of each key is user customizable and through the predator sense software users are also allowed to define effects for the lighting.

Being the most expensive laptop in Acer’s lineup it is built with the best the manufacturer has to offer. The case of the laptop is made from metal and feels premium. The only part that is a letdown is the plastic bezel around the screen which feels cheap. Had it not been plastic the overall perception of the laptop would have elevated. Still, we cannot fault the build quality though and it is made to last.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

Despite the slim chassis Acer has still included a cushy and padded keyboard here. Each key has good amount of travel and a crisp rebound making the long typing sessions are a breeze on this laptop.

The trackpad on the other hand is mediocre at best. It is perfectly useable like every other gaming laptop but lacks the smoothness and the precision. The speakers of the laptop surprised us the most. For a slim chassis we were not expecting the sound to the loud and rich so kudos to Acer for finally getting the speakers right.

Display, Battery life and I/O

The display alone can sell you on this laptop. The panel included here has a 300hz refresh rate making it the fastest on the list and tied with the Gigabyte Aero 17. The response time is also minimal and hence this panel does not suffer from any weird motion performance.

The picture quality of the panel is also good. Movies and videos look great on this laptop and the decent speakers also immerse you right into the content. For content consumption and browsing the battery of the laptop also fares well and provides a respectable 6-7 hour backup. This quickly changes when the laptop is finished and on heavy tasks and games one can only expect a battery life of 1-2 hours.

For charging as well as for connectivity you won’t have a problem here. The supplied fast charger can quickly top up the battery of the laptop which is quite convenient and handy, and this laptop also features the full suite of ports that you will ever need. The laptop also has a thunderbolt.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

The gaming performance of the laptop is every bit as good as one would expect from a high-end machine. The combination of Intel I7 10750H and Nvidia RTX 2070 Super chews through any game. Even extremely demanding games like Red Dead Redemption are no match for this PC. It easily manages to play them at max setting with locked or over 60fps.

The great gaming performance is possible due to the efficient cooling system of this laptop. With the combination of several heat pipes and a well-positioned air exhaust vents this laptop successfully manages to radiate all the heat away so that the components can keep working at their maximum.

For the cooling purpose, the fans do spin at high RPMS so they are loud and annoying depending on your tolerance to noise but that is a tradeoff that companies have to make for efficient cooling. As for the other specifications, the laptop has 16GB RAM running in dual channel configuration and a 512GB SSD to boot.

Pros
Solid and rigid chassis
Comfortable keyboard
Decent speakers for a slim gaming laptop
300hz refresh rate panel
Negatives
Loud fan
512GB storage space is insufficient for modern games
Flipped motherboard orientation makes the upgrade process very tedious

Conclusion

Acer predator triton is a jack of all trades but master of none. Perhaps, this is the reason the laptop is relatively unknown in the mainstream market. You cannot fault this laptop though as it does everything you would expect from a gaming laptop and this laptop also comes at the cheapest laptop of this list. Despite a few shortcoming this laptop is still a great buy especially considering the price this laptop now goes for.

11. Gigabyte Aero 17 KC

Best Gaming laptop for Content Creation and Streaming

Content creation and steaming games of platforms like Twitch or YouTube is a big deal now and we have not forgotten you folks as well. If you are in the market for the best content creation and streaming laptop then Gigabyte Aero 17 a worth a look for the reasons that we will cover below in detail.

Design and Build Quality

Starting off with the design and right of the bat you can notice the minimalist approach of this laptop. This laptop has the cleanest chassis of a modern gaming laptop. It is so simple and plain, and it even encroaches on the business laptop category.

To remind you that this is a gaming laptop there is aero branding on the lid of the laptop, powering the laptop also reveals the RGB backlit keyboard. Besides the RGB keyboard, this laptop features a traditional silhouette that we are accustomed to in laptops.

Gigabyte laptops are always well constructed, and this laptop is no exception. The main parts of the chassis are made from metal but there are some plastic parts thrown into the mix. This slightly dents the overall premium feel of the laptop.

Keyboard, Trackpad and Speakers

For content creators’ keyboard and trackpad is important and we happy to report that this laptop has a very comfortable keyboard. Each keystroke has good amount, and the keys feel cushy and grippy. Overall, you won’t get tired of typing on this keyboard for an extended session.

The trackpad on the other hand is bizarre. The surface is smooth but resists proper movement at the same time. It is hard to explain but just take our word for it that the trackpad on this laptop is not good at all. Speakers are also rather disappointing. They are bottom firing lack bass and the richness of the audio.

Display, Battery life and I/O

Even for casual content creation a solid display is crucial. Without a good display the content creation experience suffers but thankfully you won’t have to go through here. If we had to pick aspect of this laptop then surely it will be its display.

This panel has a 1080p IPS panel that supports a refresh rate of 300hz. The response if also low enough to fully trigger the 300hz refresh rate. The best thing about the display is the factory color calibration done by Gigabyte. This might be a bold claim, but we will say it anyway that this is the most color accurate display in a gaming laptop under $2000 price tag.

Surprisingly, even with having such a demanding display the battery life of the laptop is good. It is by no means great partly due to the power-hungry intel processor still on light usage this laptop cruises past the 6-hour mark which is great for a high-end gaming laptop that will be used for content creation. Given the competition this is not a great figure but for an Intel laptop it is acceptable.

Gaming Performance and Thermals

The Gigabyte Aero 17 has top of the line hardware. At the heart of the machine is the Intel I7 10870H. This 8 core 16 thread processor has a blazing fast core clock of 5Ghz. This is the best processor Intel has to offer and it shows in the performance. When pitched besides other offerings this processor produces chart toping performance figures.

The graphic here is also the latest Nvidia RTX 3060. This GPU is a killer 1080p performer and is the best card Nvidia has in its inventory for the aforementioned resolution. Content creation demands more RAM and Storage than gaming and you will delighted to hear that this laptop comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD.

Driving all this hardware in a relatively slim chassis is not an easy task due to the excessive heat that is being generated by the components but the Gigabyte Aero passing with flying colors in terms of cooling.

The complex system of heat pipes takes care of heat dissipation while the well positioned air exhausts efficiently disperse the hot air. Due to the nature of the processor, you will get some throttling but for the most part thermals remain well controlled and within the defined threshold.

Pros
Minimalist and simple design
Good construction
Comfortable keyboard to type on
1080p 300hz refresh rate panel
Top of the line Intel I7 10870H processor
Negatives
The trackpad is obnoxiously to use
The speakers can be better
The battery life needs further improvement

Conclusion

There are not many gaming laptops in the market that are good for gaming as well as for streaming those games. The powerful CPU also makes this laptop perfect for content creation and will shave some useful time in the editing process. The slim and minimalist profile of the Gigabyte Aero 17 is also facilitating in this regard and therefore with all the aspects of the laptop combined we believe this is the best for content creation and streaming.
